Dr. Paul Paxman, OD

Optometrist

Dr. Paul Paxman has been successful in private practice since 1991. His favorite thing to do is treat and interact with patients and is the clinical director of American Fork Vision Center. He is the very proud spouse of Shaunna and they have four children; Ariel, Skyler, Jacey, and Parker. His hobbies include cycling, BYU football and basketball, and most importantly spending time with his family!

He graduated in the top third of his class with a doctorate degree from Pacific University. During his studies and research Dr. Paxman was awarded with Vistakon Clinical Excellence Award for demonstrating excellence in clinical contact lens care and a commitment to serve the individual needs of patients and presentation at the 1991 research conference; Phi Theta Upsilon Memorial Award for the thesis project judged to be most helpful to students; AOF Harold Kohn Memorial Award based on an outstanding paper suitable for publication and investigative work. He scored in the 90th percentile on all of the board exams. While in private practice Dr. Paxman has participated in many clinical contact lens studies.

Dr. Paxman is co-management certified for laser vision correction (lasik) and cataracts. His areas of expertise are contact lenses, sport vision, eye diseases (glaucoma, diabetes, etc.), and surgical vision correction.

Before starting private practice Dr. Paxman had the unique opportunity to do a preceptorship serving the Navajo people in Chinle, Arizona as a officer of the US Navy. “It provided me invaluable experience treating trauma and eye diseases that prepared me more than any classroom or text book!” Dr. Paxman says.

Dr. Paxman participates and volunteers in the Vision USA, Infant SEE, Kids Cause, and Sight for Students. He is a Eagle Scout and learned to speak fluent Spanish serving a LDS mission to Chile. Returning to South American performing medical missions to serve the people of Chile and Bolivia with some of his children he believes are quite possibly the highlights of his career.
